The excitement that comes with having a baby is doubled if you find out that you’re having twins. However, along with this excitement also comes some worrying. How are you going to keep tabs on both babies? No parent is going to be able to watch their kids 24/7. You might want to do some quick chores or catch on sleep.
Nowadays, our lives are busier, so we take advantage of the technology. If you don’t have your baby within arm’s length, you can still keep them under surveillance. Yes, it is possible to have a second pair of eyes (or/and ear) remotely. And these devices come in the form of baby monitors.
Because you can still watch your kids even with some distance, you’ll also have the opportunity to do more tasks. But don’t worry, it’s not like you’re letting a cell phone-sized device babysit your little ones. Baby monitors are there to give you a sense of relief for those certain time periods.
There are a lot of choices available in the market. And if you’re looking for a unit specifically for twins, you have to consider some factors and features as well. We wrote a more in-depth explanation of this information in our buyer’s guide so you wouldn’t need a new browser tab.
We reviewed the 10 best baby monitors for twins. And best of all, they each have an advantage useful for different situations. If you need a unit for babies staying in the same room, we reviewed a split-screen model. We also included an array of baby monitors with two cameras for those in separate rooms.

Best Baby Monitor For Twins Reviews
Motorola MBP50-G2 – Editor’s Choice
Our first model, and happens to be our top favorite, is the Motorola MBP50-G2. This unit comes in the form of one 5-inch LCD screen and one camera. But you’ll still get a total of two cameras in a single purchase because Motorola includes an additional camera called the MBP36XLBU.
The screen is at a nice size, making it easy to hold. It is reminiscent of a smartphone, but the display itself is surrounded by buttons. You won’t have a hard time navigating through the controls. However, the buttons need a bit of force when clicking on them so you can expect clicking sounds every time you use them.
Split-Screen Viewing
As we have said earlier, you’ll get two cameras when purchasing the MBP50-G2. You can also add two more cameras for a total of four if you want to use two for each twin. The display even supports split-screen, so even if you use four cameras, you can see each of them simultaneously.
Comes with StarGrip, However…
Another useful addition that comes with the unit is Motorola’s StarGrip. If you have another camera from Motorola, you can check its bottom for a golden-colored screw hole. And if it does have one, you can use the StarGrip on it. However, the unit comes with only one StarGrip, so you might need another purchase if you’re planning on using one on both cameras.
But if you’re planning on mounting the camera, especially for younger babies, make sure it is at least 3 feet outside of the crib. For a safer installation, you can also make a mount yourself and put a bolt for screwing the camera in. Nonetheless, if you managed to place your monitor at your preferred level, you can skip these installations. The base of the cameras is stable anyway.
Remote Camera Controls
Now, let’s talk at what you’ll see at the screen. We have mentioned earlier that the MBP50-G2 supports split-screen. This feature is particularly useful, especially for twins sleeping in separate rooms. However, another favorite function of us is the fact that you can control the camera remotely. You don’t need to manually change its position to get a better view of your little ones.
Night Vision and Temperature Display
For example, you can pan, tilt, or zoom the view as you cycle through the cameras. Overall, the 5-inch display do these features justice. However, this unit may not give the best crisp wide-angle viewing experience, but for us, the scene is clear enough for checking on rooms.
The camera controls work smoothly, and it also helps that the cameras have night vision. As we have discussed in our buyer’s guide, this feature allows you to check on your children without waking them up with the lights on. And to add a piece of mind, the display even shows the room temperature.
Sound-Level LED Indicators
At the front of the monitor, you’ll see a panel of lights. You’ll see that there is one green light and it indicates that your model is on, as well as its sound-detecting feature. There is also a blue light that will turn on if you’re charging. And the rest of the LED lights will illuminate depending on how loud the sounds get in the room.
The LED sound-activated indicators are very useful because you can’t stare and listen to the monitor 24/7. The lights will alert you if a child has been crying, so you can tend to him/her faster. However, the blue charging indicator light is quite intense, and because you’ll probably charge throughout the night, it can disrupt sleep.
Sleep Mode/ Sound-Only Mode
Speaking of sleep, the MBP50-G2 does have a sleep mode. This feature turns the screen black, but don’t worry, it will leave the sound on so you can hear what’s happening in the room. Some parents love this feature, while some find it distracting, especially when they’re catching on sleep.
Overall, the MBP50-G2 does monitoring well, while giving you seamless camera control and split-screen. You can even make use of its two-way communication so you can quickly soothe and talk to your children. However, if you’re not a fan of loud noises, this unit might turn you off.
- Supports up to 4 cameras
- Split-screen
- Night vision
- Remote camera control
- Sound-Level LED Indicators
- Sleep Mode
- Room temperature
- Two-way communication
- Does not come with mounting apparatus other than the tripod
- No brightness control on LED indicators
- No volume control
Moonybaby 55810-2T – Best in Picture Quality
Our next model is from Moonybaby called the 55810-2T. It has a slightly smaller screen at 4.3 inches, but it also offers split-screen like our first model. Once you’ve put on the split-screen display, you can also choose which room will it let you hear the sound.
Night Vision
The highlight of this model for us was its picture quality, particularly in night vision. Most of the time, you’ll be observing your twins while they are asleep, so night mode in the camera is essential. The unit itself uses invisible IR LEDs, which means they will automatically switch from day to night mode and show you a clear image even in the dark.
Remote Camera Control
Another best part about this unit is that you can even control the cameras remotely. The 55810-2T comes with two cameras (both wall mount-ready) and both of which allows this feature. If your children are sleeping in separate rooms, you can customize your viewing angle for each of them. You can pan, tilt, or zoom each device using your monitor to get a better view of the room.
Wide-Angle Lens
What else can give you a better view but a wide-angle lens? We’re very pleased that Moonybaby includes wide-angle lens in this purchase. This nifty accessory captures an extra 170 degrees so you won’t miss anything in the room. And should you need a better angle, you can even rotate the lens at 90 degrees vertically or 280 degrees horizontally.
Power-Saving Mode
This baby monitor boasts an 8-hour battery life, but you can also save more energy using its power-saving mode. What this does is it’ll turn off the screen but will automatically turn back again when it detects crying sounds. This combination of power-saving and sound-activation feature is excellent because it alerts you quickly while saving on battery life. Sadly, there are no dedicated buttons for this mode, so you have to go through the menu using the arrow keys manually.
Temperature Monitoring, Nightlight, And Lullabies
Some other useful functions in this unit are temperature monitoring, nightlight, and lullabies. Of course, temperature monitoring gives you an idea of whether the room temperature is too high or too low. But both the night light and lullabies (5 songs) are unique additions, especially for a baby monitor camera. The night light illuminates softly, and the lullabies allow volume control. However, it’s quite a hassle to do multiple clicks to get the volume right because the unit lacks a dedicated key.
- Excellent picture quality even in night vision
- Remote camera control
- Wide-angle lens included
- Temperature monitoring
- Nightlight
- Lullabies
- No dedicated buttons for volume control and power-saving mode
- Average talk-back system
Infant Optics DXR-8 – Best for Twins Staying in One Room
If you want to monitor your twins in the same room, you can opt for our next model called the DXR-8 from Infant Optics. It comes with one camera, as well as a replacement battery and spare charging cable for the monitor.
You can expand to up to 4 cameras so you can still use the monitor if your twins stay in separate rooms. The available add-on cameras are also identical with the one that comes with this unit. This means you can swap your lenses in between them as they do not have the extra zoom lens that comes with this model.
Plug and Play Connection
The monitor has a stand on the back for hands-free viewing, and the camera has a stable stance but also hangs easily on a wall. Connecting the two devices is seamless as well. You don’t have to do any setup or additional downloads. It is basically “plug and play”
Now let’s take a closer inspection at its camera and why we think that it’s the best choice for monitoring a shared room.
Optical Zoom Lens
The default 2.5 mm focal lens can give you a good mid-range coverage in a room. But you can also fit in the zoom lens if you happen to place your camera away from your twins’ bed. The zooming feature of this camera is from the device’s Optical Zoom Lens. And we are pleased by how zooming to the scene does not affect the resolution of the image . Besides the zoom feature, you can also tilt or pan the camera remotely.
Unlike the previous Moonybaby, you have to purchase Infant Optics’ wide-angle lens if you want the full 170 degrees panoramic view. However, we think that the default lens can still give you a good coverage. It’s not too wide, so you can focus on your children.
The Infant Optics DXR-8 also has an infrared night vision. We could say that night vision is essential on every baby monitor because it allows you to view the room regardless of the lighting. The picture quality itself is only at 320 by 240 pixels, not as impressive as the previous unit. Nonetheless, it gets the job done, which is to show you your children’s activity.
Sound-Activated Led Lights
Similar to our previous models, this unit also features a sound-activated LED lights. Again, these are excellent features to have because it alerts you of your baby’s needs even when the screen is off or you placed the monitor in a dark room. You can also take advantage of this feature during night time and keep the sounds off to avoid distraction during sleeping.
If you’re using multiple cameras, you can set the device in auto-switch. This function will switch the camera and sound every 30 seconds on your unit. You can also manually change from camera to camera if you want to investigate the sound.
Sleep Mode
If you’re sleeping, you can turn the video off the screen and keep the sound on. Switching in these modes is pretty straightforward, and the screen even has settings to have a 3 or 5-minute duration before turning off. This extends the battery life, and you can simply click the button again to turn the video back on.
Some similar features the DXR-8 has with the previous models are the two-way communication and temperature display. But a unique feature it has is that it has an alarm. This can either be a drawback or not, depending on the user. What we mean by this is the device is pretty strict, and it beeps annoyingly when it’s getting low on batteries or losing range.
- Plug-and-play
- Remote camera control
- Excellent zooming feature
- Infrared night vision
- Sound-activated LED lights
- Sleep mode
- Two-way communication
- Temperature display
- Average screen resolution
- Beeping alarm
DBPower Video Baby Monitor – Best in Easy Installation

Ready to Mount
If you want a unit that comes immediately with a mounting set, the DBPower is for you. The model even has the nails for mounting your camera onto the wall. The camera fits snugly into the mounting piece so you’ll be ready to use your device after a quick installation. At the bottom of the camera itself is a switch labeled with wall and ceiling. What this function does is it corrects the orientation of the camera so you can get the upright view wherever you installed it.
What you’ll get in this unit are a camera and a screen monitor. You can connect up to four cameras and view it using split-screen like our previous models. You can also take advantage of the device’s auto-scan feature for better quality pictures. Otherwise, manually switching through each camera also works smoothly with this model.
Auto-Night Vision
As for the camera, you’ll get the familiar features seen in the previous units. For example, the device will automatically switch to night mode once it detects darkness. The visibility is pretty fantastic at around 15 feet.
Remote Camera Control
Another feature that we love seeing in any baby monitor is remote camera control. DBPower allows you to pan, tilt, or zoom the camera to get a better viewing angle. You can get up to 270 degrees horizontally and 110 degrees vertically.
If you prefer watching your babies with sound, you can adjust the volume in the camera or on the monitor. However, the output is still a tad loud even at the lowest volume, so we recommend making use of the device’s sound-activated lights during nighttime.
Power-Saving Mode with Sound Detection
The unit has a power-saving mode that you can use along with the VOX. If you turn the latter feature on, your previously blank screen from power-saving mode will activate. However, you can also turn VOX off to keep your screen off until you press any button on the device. The power-saving mode will also turn your device off if it detects no motion after 2 minutes.
Manual and Sound-Triggered Recording
Alert System
Remember the drawback we had for the Motorola model earlier? DBPower also has an alert system for battery juice, signal range, temperature, and sound. However, its advantage over the Motorola unit is that you can adjust the alert volume or even get rid of it completely.
You’ll also get two-way talk, room temperature reading, as well as a night light and lullaby feature in this device.
- Comes with mounting apparatus
- Remote camera control
- Night mode
- Adjustable audio volume
- Power-save and VOX settings
- Manual and sound-triggered video recording
- Adjustable sound alert system
- Two-way talk
- Temperature display
- Night light
- Lullabies
- Comes with one camera
- Volume and brightness are still high even at lowest setting
VTech VM321-2 – Best Baby Monitor for Twins Staying in Separate Rooms
Earlier, we have discussed our top choice for twins staying in the same room. And our review is not going to be complete if we do not have a unit for children in separate rooms. What we have here is the VM321 from VTech, and it is our top choice for twins staying in separate rooms.
Wall-Mount Bracket and Cord Storage
You don’t have to buy an additional camera to complete the set because the monitor comes with two cameras already. You can even expand it up to four, depending on what you need.
The screen that you’ll get is not as large as the previous ones. And if you’re planning on viewing four cameras in split-screen, it might not give you the best view. However, the control panel is minimalistic and easy to understand.
Auto-Night Mode
For the cameras, Vtech also uses an automatic IR night vision for checking on your children without disturbance. You can also zoom with the device remotely or manually adjust the lens. Note that this unit doesn’t allow scanning or tilting remotely as with the previous models.
6-Level Sound Indicator
Some excellent features that you’ll like with this model include the 6-level sound indicator. As we have already discussed in previous monitors, this feature will alert you, especially when you’re not staring and listening to the device 24/7.
Set Alerts to Vibrate
You can also set alerts for temperature dropping/raising, losing signal, or battery juice. However, instead of being annoyed by sudden beeping noises, you can simply mute these alerts and be notified once your monitor vibrates.
At this point, you might be thinking how other devices outperform the VM321-2 in this review. It may lack the remote camera control feature, but we think this unit will not let you down especially with the transmission from cameras to monitor. If you’re keeping tabs on two babies separately, you would prefer reliable connections on your monitor.
- Intuitive to use
- Comes with mounting apparatus
- Cord storage
- Night mode
- Remote zoom control
- Sound indicator
- Alerts
- Adjustable volume
- Small screen
- No remote camera control except zoom
Axvue E612 – Best for Multiple Rooms
We are halfway in our review, and the next model we have is the Axvue E612. The set comes with one monitor and two cameras. You can set your device to auto scan each camera or select one device for viewing. And similar to the previous units we reviewed, you can add two more cameras for a total of four.
Auto-Scan Feature
This monitor has a feature of scanning between the cameras every 15 seconds. Some parents might find this annoying, but for us, it is a realistic time duration to give you a rundown of each room. The auto-scan eliminates the hassle of constantly viewing each camera and you’ll be able to keep tabs on the rooms quickly.
However, it has no dedicated buttons for choosing a specific camera. You would need to press multiple buttons and hit “Okay” when the screen lands on your preferred camera.
Automatic IR Night Vision
The monitor gives a good picture quality during daylight. And because the cameras also use an automatic IR night vision, you can also expect that it can deliver quality images in low light settings.
VOX Mode
You might be familiar with the VOX feature and why we like seeing them in all baby monitors. As you have known by now, what this feature does is illuminates the monitor’s light and activate the screen once the camera detects sounds. These notify the parent immediately, especially during the night time when they’re not focusing on the device.
You can also zoom in the scene, but the difference does not give us a wow factor. Compared to our favorite zooming camera in Infant Optics, Axvue only zooms in once. As you can see in the parent monitor, there are no other camera control buttons besides zooming. This unit doesn’t offer remote camera control, and if you want to rotate the camera, you’d have to tilt it manually. The devices can’t also do a full 360-degree rotation, so you need to be strategic in placing them in the rooms.
Battery-Saving Mode
We should mention that the device has an impressive 8-hour lifespan. It might have helped that the monitor is always in battery-saving mode. What we mean by this is that the display will automatically turn off after 3-4 minutes of inactivity. And the only way to turn this mode off is by plugging the device in the charger. Sadly, as impressive as this battery life is, some users mentioned the battery draining faster over time.
Lastly, we are not disappointed with Axvue’s two-way talk feature. Both the monitor and cameras clearly hear each other without any interference.
- Auto-scan feature
- Night vision
- VOX mode
- Battery-saving mode
- Two-way talk
- No remote camera control
- Short power cord
- Battery diminish over time
Moonybaby Video Baby Monitor – Best in Battery Life
The next product in our review is another one from Moonybaby. It comes with two cameras and a 5-inch monitor, slightly bigger from the previous 55810-2T of the same manufacturer. You can link up to 4 cameras and put your device in scan mode to see each devices continuously. If you need to switch views immediately, you can press and hold the enter button. However, even though it’s slightly bigger than its sibling earlier, it does not support split-screen viewing.
Ready to Mount
The cameras that come with this unit both have their own AC power plug for mounting on the wall. Moonybaby also included the mounting kit so you wouldn’t have any problem setting them up in the room. To get a better view, you can move the cameras from up to 360 degrees.
Power-Saving and VOX
Moonybaby has a power-saving mode, which will turn the screen off. You can also block out all the background noise, which is excellent for night time. But don’t worry, it will automatically turn back on with the VOX feature. The monitor has three trigger levels when it detects that your baby is crying. This feature ensures you that even if the screen is off during power-saving mode, you’ll be notified when your children need you.
Talk-Back Feature
Speaking of which, you and your children can talk to each other quickly using the unit’s talk-back mode. For us, two-way communication is an essential feature to have in baby monitors. It gives you the ability to quickly tend to your children, or they can immediately call you out if something is urgent.
8-Hour Battery Life
The cameras also have night vision so you can still view everything throughout the night. Now here’s where we love this device. If you choose to keep your monitor on throughout the night, you can keep it charging as you would with any unit. However, the battery life of this device is not that bad.
Temperature Monitoring, Lullabies, And Alerts
Lastly, the monitor will show you the room temperature similar to the previous devices. You can also utilize its five lullabies and control the device’s volume output. And if you’re getting out of range, it will alert you as well.
- 8-hour battery life
- Comes with mounting apparatus
- Power-saving and VOX feature
- Night vision
- Two-way communication
- Volume control
- Temperature monitoring
- Has 5 Lullabies
- Alert
- No split-screen
- No remote camera control
LBtech Video Baby Monitor – Best Mid-Range Unit
Our next unit is from LBtech, and we think it’s the best baby monitor for twins you can purchase at this price point. You’d get the usual monitor with two cameras, as well as some familiar features. However, what differentiates LBtech from other monitors is that it delivers excellent performance on each of these features.
Camera Switch Button
Before we delve deeper into those features, let us start with what you’ll be getting. As we have said, the unit includes a monitor and two cameras. You can expand them into 4, and we love how the monitor has a dedicated camera switch button. Instead of pressing a lot of buttons, you can quickly use this as a shortcut. A downside, however, is that it doesn’t support split-screen viewing.
Wall Mount-Ready
Each camera also comes with a wall-mount so you’d be ready for installation. But do take note that the cords are a tad short.
Impressive Picture Quality
Now let’s talk about the camera’s performance. LBtech allows remote zooming twice, and the picture quality is pretty impressive. This includes its output even at low light settings using its night vision. It doesn’t allow remote camera tilting or panning, but you can manually tilt the camera up to 360 degrees for a better view. Overall, the picture quality is excellent.
Power-Saving and VOX
LBtech also uses power-saving partnered with VOX. Like our previous model from Moonybaby, it can reach up to 8 hours of battery life using this setting. And because of VOX, the screen will turn on once it detects that your baby is crying. However, do take note that you can’t turn the screen off other than using the VOX setting. We also think that the power light of the camera would’ve been better if it’s a tad dimmer as its brightness can be distracting for bedtime.
Talk-Back, Temperature Monitoring, and Alerts
Once the screen wakes up, you can also talk and comfort your children using the monitor’s two-way communication. Other than this feature, LBtech also includes features such as temperature monitoring and alerts.
- Decent price
- Dedicated camera switch button
- Comes with mounting apparatus
- Impressive picture quality
- Night mode
- Power-saving and VOX
- Talk-Back, Temperature Monitoring, and Alerts
- Adjustable brightness and volume
- 8-hour battery life
- No remote camera control
- No split screen
- Power light is bright
- Makes beeping noise when adjusting brightness or volume
Moonybaby Video Baby Monitor – Best Value for Money
Before we revealed our final unit, let us review another baby monitor from Moonybaby. Like the previous monitor from LBtech, it comes in a reasonably affordable price point with excellent performance. You will get a monitor and two cameras without the need for apps or downloads to use.
Dedicated Switch Camera Button
You can link up to 4 cameras and put the monitor in scan or steady view. If you choose to scan, the device will give you a 10-second view for each camera. But on the other hand, you can also press the shortcut switch camera button. We appreciate shortcut buttons like this because it hastens the time needed to go through the camera that you want.
Night Mode
The cameras itself produce decent image quality. You don’t need to intervene in low light settings to get good viewing because it’ll automatically switch to night mode. The cameras will even allow you to zoom twice with reasonable quality. However, you’ll have to manually rotate the devices if you need a better angle. It can reach up to 360 degrees so you won’t have a problem in any direction.
Power-Saving and VOX Feature
Moonybaby also uses a power-saving feature and VOX. And if you did choose this feature, the unit can last up to 8 hours. If you use it for continuous real-time video playback, it can go up to 6 hours, which is not bad compared to other baby monitors. Also, if you need to soothe your crying child quickly, the talk-back button of this device will not disappoint you.
Volume Control, Lullabies, Temperature Monitoring, And Alerts
Lastly, the baby monitor has familiar features that you’ve seen on the previous units already. These include volume control, lullabies, temperature monitoring, and alerts for temperature and range. And while we appreciate that the device alerts you when the temperature in the room is no longer proper, we find the readings not as accurate. We also don’t like the beeping sound the monitor makes when adjusting the volume level.
- Reasonable price
- Decent picture quality
- Dedicated switch camera button
- Power-saving and vox feature
- Volume control, lullabies, temperature monitoring, and alerts
- No remote camera control
- Temperature reading is not as accurate
- Average zooming quality
- Volume adjustment makes beeping noise
Babysense Video Baby Monitor – Best Affordable Baby Monitor
If you already have an allocated budget or you can’t commit to a pricier model yet, you can check our final baby monitor for twins from Babysense. It has features at par with the previous models and the company provides quality customer service.
In this purchase, you’ll get a monitor and two cameras. Of course, you can set it with up to 4 cameras and use the auto-scan feature to go through each every 10 seconds. We should also note that it has no split-screen, which isn’t shocking considering the size of the screen.
Auto-Infrared Night Vision and Digital Zooming
The cameras may not give you an amazing high-definition image, but they’re good enough to let you know what’s happening in the room. Both even have auto-infrared night vision, as well as digital zooming capacity.
However, the monitor does not offer remote panning or tilting, so you have to be strategic in placing the camera in the room. And speaking of which, you should keep in mind that their cords are quite short. You can, however, manually rotate the cameras up to 360 degrees and tilt them at 60 degrees.
Eco-Mode with Sound Activation Feature
At this price point, you will not miss out on battery saving. Babysense has an eco-mode and similar to other baby monitors; it will render the screen blank. The monitor will then only turn back on if it detects sound with low, medium, or high activation level. However, do take note that eco mode is not available with multiple cameras.
Talk-Back, Temperature Monitoring, and Lullabies
The baby monitor also has the familiar two-way talk-back feature, temperature monitoring, and lullabies. It will alert you if you’re out of range or if the room temperature gets higher or lower as well. But a unique feature that this affordable device has is that you can set the alarm for 2, 4, or 6 hours.
Alarm Setting
This timer setting would be particularly useful when you want to be reminded with feeding, diaper-changing, or medication schedules. We think this feature adds to the overall use of the device as a baby monitor.
- Affordable
- Responsive customer service
- Night mode and digital zooming
- Sound-activated eco mode
- Talk-back communication
- Temperature monitoring
- Lullabies
- Alerts
- Timer/Alarm
- Small screen
- Eco mode is not available when using multiple cameras
- Short camera cord
- Does not come with mounting apparatus

Best Baby Monitor for Twins Buyer’s Guide
Features to Consider in Choosing a Baby Monitor
With the wide selection of baby monitors in the market, it can be tough to come up with a shortlist. Some units may share the same features, but others have controls that make them superior above the competition.
Before we discuss each feature, there is one significant factor that should affect your decision in choosing a model. So let us ask you the question, “Will your twins share a room?” If your answer is yes, you can opt for just one unit. For example, the Infant Optics DXR-8 comes with one camera. However, what’s unique with this model is that its camera has multiple lenses so you can monitor both babies separately in one device.
On the other hand, if they are using separate rooms, you’ll need two baby monitors. An excellent example is the VTech VM321-2. It comes with two cameras, and you can switch between them or have the screen split for viewing.
Now that we got that question out of the way, let’s take a look at the significance of certain features.
Split-Screen
We have to sound redundant, but we think that having the split-screen option is a must-have in every baby monitor. Especially for parents with twins, it’s more convenient to watch both kids at the same time. This eliminates the hassle of constantly switching to each camera on those units without the split-screen feature.
Camera Control
Other than split-screen, wouldn’t it be great if you have more control in the camera? For example, after you’re watching both kids simultaneously, you can tweak one camera if you want to focus more on that child. The need for this usually happens if you’re not sure whether your child is moving in his/her sleep or if he/she is actually waking up.
Night Vision
If you’re using a nightlight to avoid waking up your children in the middle of the night, then you understand the importance of a night vision mode. We’re trying to keep our little ones in a proper sleeping schedule, but this doesn’t mean that we’re sacrificing visibility in the monitor.
Night vision allows you to watch your babies even with the lights out. This gives you a peace of mind overnight, without needing to play the guessing game. You can also quickly check which child needs a visit instead of opening the lights in the room and waking up the other.
Screen Size
Screen size might be a matter of individual preference. However, both the smaller and larger screen has an advantage. What we mean is that a larger screen gives you a wider viewing area at a quick glance. But on the one hand, a smaller screen can provide a more detailed view useful for pinpointing certain details.
Dual Audio
Similar to the previous split-screen, some baby monitors even have dual audio. This feature lets you hear both of your children at the same time. Let’s face it; it can be hard to differentiate each twin if you’re listening in a shared audio.
Audio Detection
If you’re looking for a unit that’ll last your twins up to their toddler years, then a nice feature to have in that unit is an audio alert. We have mentioned this feature earlier in the different types of baby monitors, and it is useful, especially for night time. As your children become toddlers, you can expect that they’ll have a longer sleeping pattern. This means you won’t need to listen 24/7.
Movement Detection
Just because we say we preferred visual monitoring doesn’t mean that movement detection is not useful. As with the audio alert, you might not be able to stare at the monitor screen 24/7. And if you use a baby monitor that detects movement, it’ll alert you that one of your children is waking up.
Both audio and movement alerts give you a window of time to do other things. But at the same time, you won’t be missing out on anything that is happening.
Range And Signal
As you have seen in our comparison table, each baby monitor varies in signal range. You’re using these devices for remote surveillance, so naturally, you need something that works efficiently regardless of the distance.
To choose a model, think of the size of your house, as well as the distance you’re likely to have away from your twins. Most manufacturers wrote out their unit’s “open field” range to give you a gist of its effectivity in catching the signal. Keep in mind that this range can be interfered by the furniture, walls, house structure, or other wireless devices.
Some devices even allow WIFI connectivity. This feature gives you the option to access the baby monitor anywhere as long as you have an internet connection. Depending on the model, you can even use your own smartphone as the receiver. Digital transmission is the better choice if you want to make sure that you wouldn’t lose signal when you move around a larger house.
Durability
We hate to break it to you, but knock on wood because you’re likely to drop your baby monitor. Whether it slipped from your hands or launched across the room by a bored toddler, it can happen. Your baby monitor does not need to survive a two-story drop, but make sure that it can take some beating and knocks.
Battery Life
Would you buy a laptop that needs you to plug it in an outlet every 30 minutes? Baby monitors offer portability, and being restricted by its charging period cancels that purpose. Some days, we have so many things to do, and the last thing you want is running out of battery juice. Not only does it restricts your location, but it also turns you into a monitor for the unit itself.
Two-Way Communication
All of the units in this review offer two-way communication. We think this feature gives you the full monitoring experience because you can quickly talk to your little ones. If you have babies, you can immediately soothe them with your voice, and if you have toddlers, they can ask you when they need something.
Types of Baby Monitor
Audio Monitors
One of the earliest types of baby monitors are the audio-only models. And if you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option, you can start with this type. This baby monitor allows you to listen to your baby and be alerted easily. The device should also focus on particular sounds (e.g., crying) so that you can filter out the insignificant background noise. While it may be counterintuitive to its use, some devices have a mute option. However, they included a light element that’ll illuminate if the sounds are getting louder.
If you have twins in separate rooms, should you get two devices? Because of how audio monitors work, they tend to interfere with each other. This, in turn, results in hearing feedback on either device. But don’t worry, as some manufacturers came out with two units for one receiver. This way, you can have an audio monitor for each child without worrying for feedback in the receiver.
Digital Monitors
If you’re worried about the sounds in your baby’s room being picked up by other receivers, our next type is the solution. You can switch from an analog monitor to a digital monitor for an added security. Digital monitors will cost more than analog monitors, but the encrypted transmissions they offer are worth it.
Movement Monitors
Movement monitors are basically motion-sensitive devices that you place under your baby’s mattress. More than movement, some units can even know the difference in your child’s breathing patterns and other vital signs. However, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) does not formally recommend movement monitors when it comes to preventing SIDS.
SIDS or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, is an unexplained death of a child younger than one year. And even though movement monitors track a baby’s vital signs, it does not ensure that it can reduce SIDS.
Video Monitors
If we’re talking about peace of mind, nothing will beat video surveillance. Especially, when you have twins, you’ll quickly know who needs a visit in their room. Some units even have a motion sensor, which is advantageous if you’re keeping both children in the same room. This way, you can keep the other child from being awakened by his/her sibling.
In our review, the majority of video baby monitors that we included have two cameras. Since we’re leaning towards using the device for twins, multiple cameras give you more precise surveillance.
Video + Audio Monitors
If we’re going to take advantage of the technology, why not go all the way and combine video and audio feedback. Of course, this type of baby monitors cost more than the previous units, but they are also packed with useful features. Some of the common ones have night vision so you can check on your twins regardless of the lighting. And other devices even allow you to zoom in or tilt the camera remotely.
Smart Baby Monitors
The most advanced type of baby monitors can give you information not limited to sounds and movements. If your baby has a medical condition, smart baby monitors have an array of sensors that put a whole new meaning to the word “monitoring.”
- Breathing Sensor: alerts you when the child’s breathing pattern is not regular
- Heartbeat Sensor: alerts you about your child’s heartbeat pattern
- Temperature Sensor: alerts you if the room temperature is above or below the preferred temperature.
But similar to the previous movement monitors, there is no information that can prove it effective for preventing SIDS. You will still need other medical apparatus, but nonetheless, smart baby monitors add an extra level of safety.
