Jolly Jumper – The 6-Foot Standalone Jumper

Jolly Jumper Review
Source: jolly-jumper.myshopify.com

Our first product is the Jolly Jumper with Super Stand. Upon first glance, it almost reminds us of a toy crane machine or a swing frame, except it has a swivel attachment. Think of the model as a door jumper except it comes with its own stand. Because of this, the Jolly Jumper becomes an independent unit that you can place both indoors and outdoors.

6-Foot Tall Super Stand

The Super Stand itself measures 6 feet in height with four legs widely spaced out. And you can assume that it will take a lot of space compared to other traditional standalone models. On the bright side, putting the pieces together is very easy, and you don’t even have to bring 20 tools with you.

For that reason, taking the whole structure apart is also going to be as quick. This is advantageous after some time. Once your child no longer uses the jumper, you can conveniently store the pieces someplace else.

Basically, the Super Stand is composed of two crossbars that interlinked with each other. In the instruction manual, these crossbars are labeled A and B. And crossbar A has the hook for the dangling part of the jumper.

Tool-Free Assembly

The “installation” of the whole unit is pretty much attaching these crossbars together, and we have no problem understanding the instructions. Each step comes with the drawing of what you should achieve, as well as written instructions. And as we have mentioned earlier, you won’t be needing any tools because each part aligns perfectly together.

For example, the resting plate that you’ll put on crossbar A has a groove. You’ll just place crossbar B on top of this resting plate and then lock them all together using the included knob. Screw this part on top of the frame and the upper portion is done. Lastly, you can put in the mid legs and base legs by screwing them into place using their threaded ends.

Stable and Heavy But Bulky

Once you feel secure with the Super Stand, you can install in the spring with a swivel attachment, safety cord, and then the saddle. For us, the resulting stand feels stable and heavy, even during use. We think it owes it to the fact that it has four legs in contrast to just giving support with two.

Height Adjustable Straps

And for a safer and more comfortable experience, make sure that you have adjusted the jumper’s straps according to your baby. This way, the height of the saddle from the ground is not detrimental to your child’s body and safety.

Sadly, a potential drawback we have with this height adjustment is that it might still be too short for taller babies.

Hugging Saddle Seat

Now, let’s talk about the saddle seat. We like the full 360-degree support that it gives to the baby. This is important since it keeps the child from falling out as he/she jumps. And at the same time, it keeps your little one in an upright posture which is a must in any jumper. However, this overall security means that some parents find it tricky to take their little one out of the seat.

Removable and Washable Seat

As for the comfort, the fabric of the seat does not feel itchy and hot. It is also worth mentioning that you can remove the seat pad itself, and then wash it to keep it clean.

Pros
  • Installs easily without tools
  • Straightforward manual
  • Tall and wide stand prevents baby from hitting the frame
  • Stable and heavy frame
  • Washable and breathable seat
  • Adjustable straps
Cons
  • Bulky
  • May not accommodate taller babies
  • Taking the child out the seat feels awkward

Fisher-Price Rainforest Jumperoo – 360-Degrees of Interactive Toys

Fisher-Price Rainforest Jumperoo Review
Source: www.fisher-price.com

Next on our review is the Rainforest Jumperoo from Fisher-Price. It is a more traditional-looking freestanding model compared to the previous Jolly Jumper. What we mean by traditional-looking is that a table surrounds its jumping saddle. This is in contrast to the first jumper we reviewed that looks like a doorway jumper except it comes with its own support frame.

360-Degree Rotating Seat with Adjustable Height

Back to the Rainforest Jumperoo, this model is composed of a seat surrounded by a table with interactive toys. The seat itself has a frog design to match the rainforest theme. It is soft to touch but what’s unique to this seat is that it can rotate a full 360 degrees. As we have mentioned previously, the seat is in the middle of the activity center. So the fact that it can rotate allows the child to face the toys that he/she wants to use. And for a customized fit, the frog seat offers three height levels that you can adjust into.

Covered Springs and Wide Base

A three-legged frame with a wide base supports the seat with activity center. All their springs are covered in soft fabric to keep your child’s fingers from getting stuck in them. The base of this frame is also circular for better balance. This way, the model will be more stable regardless of the child’s direction of jumping.

Sturdy But Bulky

The structure of this jumper is a combination of plastic and steel, making it durable at the expense of being heavy. And if you need to keep the jumper in your storage area, you can only fold it to a nested position, which might still be too bulky for some spaces.

Interactive From Top to Bottom

The Rainforest Jumperoo has a variety of inclusions. For us, among this whole review, it has one of the best baby activity center. At the top of the two support poles are leaves that are pointing towards the center. This gives the top area of the jumper a canopy, and each leaf even hangs a soft plush toy that your child can reach and bat.

Removable and Fixed Trays

Then at the seat, you’ll get two trays. There’s a fixed one, but the other is removable so you can put in toys or snacks. We think these trays are useful since some parents take the opportunity to do quick tasks while their baby is on the jumper. This way, he/she will remain engaged for the duration.

With Motion-Activated Lights and Sounds

But besides putting and hanging your own toys, the other Rainforest inclusions are also enough to keep your child busy. All of them require physical interaction, and some even light up and make sounds using batteries. The Jumperoo also has a setting for the motion sensor so that the model lights up and produces music as your child jumps. And as for the musical instruments, you can set it to play continuously for 4 minutes and set the volume to your liking.

The included toys are colorful, and since they are tactile, your child can learn basic things such as “cause and effect.” The Rainforest is quite packed with the animal-themed piano, roller balls, spinners, rattles, drums, bobblehead, peek-a-boo, and a chew toy.

And in case your baby gets messy, you take out and wash the seat and wipe the other plastic parts.

Pros
  • Durable built
  • Adjustable height
  • Rotating seat
  • Washable seat
  • Comes with lots of interactive toys
  • Motion-activated sounds and lights
  • 4-minute tune
  • Volume control
Cons
  • Heavy
  • Can be bulky for storage

MINNIE MOUSE PeekABoo – Tap or Jump for Sounds and Lights

Coincidentally, the Minnie Mouse PeekABoo Activity Jumper looks quite similar to the features of our previous Rainforest Jumperoo. However, if you want something with a more gender-neutral theme, we recommend that you check our other jumpers.

With the Minnie Mouse PeekABoo, you’ll get a jumper seat in the middle of an activity center. As we have briefly mentioned, it’s very reminiscent of the previous model. It has a wide circular base, and the manufacturer also covered the springs with soft fabric material for safety.

Effortless Height Adjustment

But what we like most about this jumper is how easy it is to adjust the seat’s height. You’ll just drag the green clips at the support poles upward or downward and lock them into place. It’s so simple that you can do it with one hand.

Constructing the jumper altogether is also as straightforward since the diagrams are labeled. Most of the steps are just snapping the pieces together, although some parts require a bit more effort to connect. Once finished, expect that the seat doesn’t fold so you might need to deconstruct the pieces if you want to travel with it.

Includes Toys and Toy Loops

Every wonder why they call this the peek-a-boo jumper? Well, your child can learn about self-awareness using the Minnie Mouse mirror. She can also spin, hold, push, bat, and rotate the included toys of the jumper. Overall, she’ll get a total of 12 toys to interact with. The seat also has toy loops so you can hang in more toys for her.

360-Degree Rotating Seat

Another similarity that this jumper has with the previous model is that your child can also do a full 360-degree rotation. This way, she can face whichever section of the jumper and play with the toys.

Choose from Tap or Jump Setting for the Lights and Sounds

The jumper also offers two settings for its battery-operated sounds and lights features. You can do this at the front by flicking the button towards your chosen configuration. The tap setting will activate the toys to light up and makes sounds when your child pushes the toys.

What’s great is that even a gentle tap can activate the sounds and lights. This way, your baby won’t have to press down hard to be rewarded by these effects. The other setting, which is the motion sensor, will, of course, activate when your baby jumps. You can also control the volume output, which we think is always a plus in any toy.

Lastly, the seat is safe for the washing machine, so you get to save time and effort in cleaning.
Pros
  • Covered springs
  • Wide base
  • One-hand height adjustment
  • Comes with toys and toy loops
  • Rotating seat
  • Tap and motion-activated lights and sounds
  • Machine-washable seat
Cons
  • Not foldable

Skip Hop Explore & More – Celebrate 100 Jumps with Applause

Skip Hop Explore & More Baby Jumper Review
Source: www.skiphop.com

The fourth jumper in our review is the Explore and More from the well-known company, Skip Hop. It also has a similar structure to our previous two models, although it went on a simpler route when it comes to the toys.

Easy to Assemble

Right off the box, assembling the pieces together is not going to give you a headache. The steps are pretty basic, including attaching the parts and screwing certain areas. You start with the base right side up and then turn it to unfold the supporting legs. After this, you can push the legs down into the base so you can hear them click into place securely.

Covered Springs and 5 Height Levels

You can also choose from 5 height levels when you put in the hooks to personalize the jumper for your baby. We are also pleased that the springs have plastic casings to prevent curious fingers from getting stuck in them.

Removable Seat Cover and Rotating Seat

The cover for the seat, on the other hand, uses plastic tabs, so taking it on and off is quick and easy. Once you’ve put the cover on the seat, you can place it on the table and wait for a click to signifies that it’s locked. You should be able to rotate the seat smoothly in a full 360 degrees similar to the previous freestanding jumpers.

Not a Lot of Toys But…

Now let’s talk about the table surrounding the seat. Skip Hop comes with four clip-in toys that you’ll press down to lock into place. They also move when tapped or patted. The trees sway, the fox moves up and down as your baby jumps, the spinners rattles and wobbles, and there are also tambourines and a mirror. But for us, the highlight in the activity table is the jump counter. You can even opt to remove it so that its indentation becomes a toy or snack tray as well.

A Round of Applause for Every 100 Jumps

What makes Skip Hop stand out from the rest is that the battery-operated counter will show you how many times your baby has jumped. It also produces sounds and lights, and best of all, it gives off a round of applause after 100 jumps.

10 and 20 Minute Parent Reminder

Another useful feature that this jumper has is that it also has a parent reminder. This will alert you after 10 and 20 minutes, so you get to monitor your baby’s usage of the jumper. As we have mentioned in our buyer’s guide, limiting your little one’s time in the jumper is safer and healthier in the long run.

Folds Flat with Straps

For the storage, Skip Hop folds flat that you can easily fit it underneath the bed or bring it in the vehicle for travel. It has straps that hold the pieces together, including a seat cover velcro to avoid misplacing any part when you travel or store the unit.

Sadly, a drawback we have is that Skip Hop doesn’t sell each part separately. This could be a hassle, especially if only one part needs replacing.
Pros
  • Easy to assemble
  • Rotating seat
  • Removable seat cover
  • Covered springs
  • 5 height levels
  • Jump counter with applause, sounds, and lights
  • Parent reminder
  • Folds flat with straps and seat cover velcro
Cons
  • Limited activities
  • Parts not sold separately

Baby Einstein – Effortless One-Hand Height Adjustment

Rotating Seat with 3 Activity Sections

Another colorful baby jumper that is packed with toys is the Neighborhood Friends model from Baby Einstein. It has a total of three stations with 12 activities to keep your little one busy. And just like the previous jumpers, the chair in the middle allows a full 360-degree rotation so that your child can face his/her toys comfortably.

Sturdy Yet Foldable

Assembling the jumper all together may take about an hour since it has a lot of parts and toys to attach. However, once you finish assembling, you can pretty much grab the unit at the base and transfer it from place to place. And if you need to store it somewhere else, you can collapse it so that it folds almost flat to fit under the bed or sofa.

Covered Springs But…

The jumper also has parts that we like when it comes to its mechanism. First, there are fabric-like materials that cover all the jumper’s springs, similar to our previous jumpers. We just wished the springs feel less tight to give more bounce.

Twist and Drag to Adjust Height

But what’s unique with Baby Einstein is it is at par with the Minnie Mouse model when it comes to height adjustment. With Baby Einstein, its clips are more subtle and come in the form of “balls” attached to the springs. You can grab a ball in one hand, twist it, then drag it up or down on your chosen height.

Learn Shapes, Colors, and Numbers in Different Languages

Now, let’s talk about the activities. The most eye-catching feature in the activity center is the piano. It has buttons that differ in shapes, colors, and numbers. At the front of it are the buttons for the volume control and function selection.

For example, you can opt to put in the setting where your child can play the piano, or use it to teach your child with letters, numbers, and language. In this case, Baby Einstein offers English and Spanish. However, a comment we have is that the speaker quality tends to be hard to decipher.

For the other inclusions, your baby can play in three sections. These sections include a chew toy, spinners, mirrors, beads, and other toys that he/she can spin, bend, or drag. There are also extra loops on the bar and close to the toy tray to add more toys. And speaking of which, the toy tray can be useful for holding snacks.

Pros
  • Comes with a lot of activities and loops
  • Teaches about numbers, shapes, and colors
  • Dual language lessons
  • One-hand height adjustment
  • Sturdy construction
  • Foldable
  • Rotating seat
Cons
  • Tight springs
  • Average speaker quality

Creative Baby Safari – JPMA-Certified Jumper with Integrated Snack and Cup Holder

Creative Baby Safari Jumper Review
Source: creativebabyinc.com

We are halfway on our review, and what we have here is the Safari Jumper from Creative Baby. Upon first glance, it somehow reminds us of the previous Rainforest Jumperoo. Not because they have similar themes, but because of their animal-shaped seat and an overhanging toy pointing towards the center.

High Back Rotating and Washable Seat

The Safari Jumper has a lion-shaped seat, with the head of the character extending a bit more at the back of the baby. We like this design because it adds back support and comfort for the baby. Speaking of the seat, it even allows a full 360-degree rotation similar to our other standalone baby jumpers. You can also remove and wash the padding, in case of messy accidents.

Rubber-Padded Feet

The jumper itself is easy to assemble, and the overall finished structure feels solid and stable. For added slip resistance, Creative Baby used rubber pads at the base of the jumper. However, if we have to compare the Safari Jumper to the Baby Einstein Jumper, the latter is easier to adjust in height. The reason is that this model has the white adjustment clips located underneath the saddle. Nonetheless, the Safari Jumper still offers 3 height levels.

Toys Too Simple?

Now, let’s talk about the activity center. The Safari Jumper has a one-sided canopy that gives off soft-textured toy leaves. And the toys surrounding the seat are all interchangeable, so you can move or remove them to your baby’s liking. They are all animal-themed that either slide, rotate, and bobble.

However, we think that some of the toys are not as engaging and might be too simple to entertain your child longer.

Removable Music Tray

Other than these toys, the Safari Jumper also has a removable toy tray. This tray operates via batteries and gives off lights and music when your baby presses its buttons. We like that the little doors pop open when the child presses a button. As a result, this teaches babies “cause and effect.” Lastly, you can also adjust the volume of the unit, so that your child can play without distracting other people in the house.

Integrated Snack Tray and Cup Holder

Once you removed the music tray, you will have access to the snack tray with cup holder. This is also another useful feature, especially the cup holder. You won’t have to worry about fallen sippy cups when your child needs to eat inside his/her jumper.

JPMA-Certified

It is also worth mentioning that this jumper is JPMA-certified. What this means is that it has been tested, and has met the guidelines for quality, safety, performance, and functionality of baby products.

Pros
  • High back rotating seat
  • Washable seat padding
  • Sturdy stance
  • Rubber-padded feet
  • Interchangeable toys
  • Removable music tray
  • Built-in snack tray and cup holder
  • JPMA-certified
Cons
  • Underwhelming activities

Summer Pop N’ Jump Portable Activity Center – Editor’s Choice

Summer Pop N' Jump Portable Activity Center Review
Source: www.summerinfant.com

Our next unit happens to be our top favorite. And best of all, it comes in a reasonable price. The Summer Pop N’ Jump is a jumper slash activity center that folds compact for travel. But as you can see by the looks of this model, it doesn’t look similar to our previous freestanding jumpers.

Adjustable Height

To work as a jumper, the Summer Pop N’ Jump uses covered tension springs at the corners. You can adjust the legs into 3 levels to lower or raise the height of the jumper. This way, you’ll get the proper jumping posture suited for your child. You want your little one’s feet slightly raised and not too high or too flat on the ground.

Removable and Washable Feet Mat and Seat

What’s unique with this jumper is that it also comes with a feet mat for your baby. You place this mat underneath your baby’s feet so that his/her feet won’t get injured by the flooring. This also helps to protect the feet from dirt if you use the jumper outdoors. Afterward, you can place the mat in the washing machine along with the removable support seat.

Comes with 4 Toys

Because the Summer Pop N Jump aims to be conveniently portable, you won’t get a plastic table like those from the previous jumpers. Alternatively, the unit opts for a foldable frame covered in fabric. Because of this design, the toys are not integrated or molded into the jumper. Nevertheless, you’ll still get a spinner ball, chew toy, rattle, and a mirror book along with the unit. There are also loops where you can attach in more toys of your baby.

Removable UV Canopy

We should also mention that the jumper has a canopy that you can attach by buttons. However, this canopy is not just overhanging toys. Instead, it is a real working UV canopy that provides shade outdoors. The canopy is angled to cover your baby, and it has mesh sides for breathability in hot weather.

Foldable into Strapped Travel Bag

Overall, the Summer Pop N Jump lives up to its name. You can bring it outdoors for summertime because it has a floor pad and a breathable UV canopy. It also folds and unfolds fast, so portability is going to be easy. In fact, it comes with its own travel bag complete with shoulder straps.

The only drawback we have for this unit is that its overall structure may not be comfortable for taller babies. Getting a taller baby in and out of the seat will also be awkward, especially with the canopy attached.
Pros
  • Foldable and comes with own travel bag
  • Height adjustable legs
  • Removable and washable seat
  • Removable and washable feet padding
  • Comes with toys and toy loops
  • Removable UV canopy
Cons
  • Not for taller babies
  • Not much activities

Graco Doorway Bumper Jumper – Twist and Mark-Free Doorway Jumper with Tray

Graco Doorway Bumper Jumper Review
Source: www.gracobaby.com

The next three jumpers that we have are all going to be doorway jumpers. And the first that we’re going to review is the Graco Doorway Bumper Jumper. Let’s go ahead and discuss its overall anatomy.

Mark-Free Door Clamps

At the top of the unit is a typical-looking door clamp. Looking at it, you can compare it to those clamps that people use to carry a block of ice. However, Graco boasts that this clamp won’t leave any marks on top of the door trim.

When it comes to how safe the clamps attach onto the doorway, we are pleased with how it works. Basically, as the weight of your baby pulls down the jumper, the clamps grip tighter. This way, you won’t have to worry about the clamps suddenly popping open as your baby bounce around. You will need to open the clamps yourself if you need to remove the jumper off the door trim.

Hidden Safety Cord and Adjustable Strap

The bouncing spring, on the other hand, feels sturdy with a hidden safety cord for added peace of mind. You can also adjust the length of the strap. Slide the buckle up or down to give the jumper a personalized height. Sadly, we think it would’ve been nicer if Graco offered a shorter length. This way, the jumper can accommodate babies with longer legs better.

Twist-Proof Straps

Under the adjustable strap is a plastic dome that holds the two support straps on both sides. Because of this design, the two side straps stay apart. Therefore, they won’t end up twisting onto each other as your baby jumps.

Wipeable and Washable Seat with Tray and Toys

Then, the seat pad itself is machine washable. Graco also used nylon, so you just wipe it if it only needs minor cleaning. The saddle seat also has a tray with indentations where you can put in snacks or toys. The extension provided by this tray also serves as a barrier if the child hits a surface. And other than this tray, the Bumper Jumper also comes with toys hanging on the loops attached on the two side straps.

Pros
  • Tight door clamp won’t leave marks
  • Safety cord
  • Adjustable strap
  • Twist-proof
  • Wipeable and washable seat
  • Tray
  • Hanging toys
Cons
  • May be tricky to use with taller babies

Sea & Discover Door Jumper – Spacious Seat for Chubby Babies

We are close to finishing our list, and our next doorway jumper comes from a company we previously praised. Other than the Neighborhood Friends activity jumper, we also reviewed another jumper that is from Baby Einstein.

Similar to our previous doorway jumper, the Sea and Discover door jumper installs directly using its clamp. However, we noticed that some parents complain that the wideness of the clamp is not compatible with the size of their doorways.

Unfortunately, you can’t adjust the clamp, so it’s best only to use it if your door frame measures about 4 to 5 inches.

ASTM-Certified

As for the safety of the unit, the Sea and Discover meets the ASTM Standards. This certification guarantees users with regards to the quality and safety of the product. The unit itself also has a secondary strap on the clamp for added safety measure. You can push this buckle up so that the clamp stays in place.

Adjustable Strap

The Sea and Discover has an adjustable strap that is right below the covered springs. And the two straps that hold the seat are well-spaced apart, so you don’t have to worry about possible twisting.

However, for the seat, some babies might require additional inserts to prevent them from leaning/tipping over.

Removable and Washable Seat

When it comes to cleaning, the seat is at par with the previous models. You can remove and wash it completely to save time and effort. And if you need to bring the jumper with you, you will be pleased that it’s compact and lightweight. This is also advantageous if you need to reposition the jumper to another doorway.

Detachable Toys

Lastly, the Sea and Discover comes with toy holders and toys. Of course, these inclusions match the nautical theme of the jumper. You can detach each toy and reposition them to your child’s liking as well. The toys include a mirror, rattle, starfish, and three flashcards with ocean-related images. Sadly, this jumper works like a typical doorway type which means it has no tray like the previous Graco model.

Pros
  • Resistance clamp with safety strap
  • Meets ASTM Standards
  • Lightweight
  • Adjustable strap
  • Covered springs
  • Removable and washable seat
  • Detachable toys
Cons
  • Clamp does not fit on some doorways
  • Seat needs additional inserts for some babies

Evenflo Doorway Jumper – Basic and Quick

Evenflo Doorway Jumper Review
Source: www.evenflo.com

Wipable and Machine Washable Seat

The last baby jumper in our review happens to be the Exersaucer doorway jumper from Evenflo. The saddle has 6 designs and colors to match with your baby’s personality. The seat fabric itself is also wipeable for faster clean-up. But, in case the seat needs deeper cleaning, you can also put it in the machine directly.

Quick to Install

What you’ll be getting with this unit from Evenflo is a basic jumper. This means you don’t have to fuss about finding tools when you build the pieces together. It basically installs by attaching to the door frame, so removing and transferring it is going to be quick. The length of the straps is also 18.5 inches, and you can shorten or lengthen it to get to your child’s proper height.

The door clamp feels strong and will fit most doorways that are 3 to 6 inches thick. And for safety, make sure that your door trim is firmly affixed and measures at least ½ inches in width. And when it comes to the safety of the seat, it can efficiently frame children weighing up to 24 pounds. Although we think that taller children will not feel as restricted regardless of this weight limit.

Lastly, we appreciate that Evenflo covered the jumper’s springs. However, they tend to make noises during bouncing. This is a minor drawback, but we’d still appreciate a quiet jumping session.
Pros
  • Reasonable price
  • Comes in 6 designs
  • Wipes clean
  • Machine washable
  • Solid door clamp
  • Easy to install and remove
Cons
  • Saddle seat may not fully support taller children
  • Springs produce squeaking sounds

Best Baby Jumper Buyer’s Guide

Types of Baby Jumpers

Basically, there are two types of baby jumpers. And throughout our review, you have probably differentiated the two quite easily.

Doorway Jumpers

Doorway baby jumper
Source: www.gracobaby.com

We can safely assume that when you thought of a jumper, this type is the one that popped in your mind. Because they are the more traditional type, doorway jumpers typically cost less than the next type. The mechanism of how they work is simple. You’ll just attach the model at the top of your doorway using the jumper’s straps. And the baby can jump up and down in the harnessed seat utilizing the model’s spring.

The advantage to this location is the jumper only takes the space in the doorway. But of course, you have to place it in the doorway that is not busy. You should also keep in mind that some house interiors might not be compatible with this type of jumper. These jumpers are also not going to be as easy to transfer from place to place. Make sure to set your mind on where you’re going to put it permanently to avoid the hassle.

Doorway jumpers are relatively straightforward. That means they are meant for one activity only, which is jumping. Therefore, they don’t have any other interactive features. An exception to this fact would be the certain units that have hooks or loops for hanging in toys.

Freestanding Jumpers

Best baby jumper buyer's guide
Source: www.flickr.com

From the name itself, freestanding jumpers don’t have to rely on other structures to stabilize themselves. That being said, this type already has its own rods where the jumping structure attaches to. Because of this design, you can virtually place this jumper anywhere. However, the disadvantage to this location is that the jumper will require more space.

Freestanding jumpers come in different themes and designs. They are somewhat reminiscent of baby walkers with built-in trays and activity centers. The latter features are advantageous to parents because they keep the child engaged. While baby jumpers are in no way a replacement for an adult babysitter, they can still be entertaining enough to keep children busy. This way, you can do quick tasks with your baby playing and bouncing within your field of vision. However, we should also mention that there are also freestanding jumpers that have no activity centers.

What is the Difference Between Jumpers, Bouncers and Swings?

When looking for a baby jumper, you might have also stumbled upon baby bouncers and swings. However, differentiating the three is quite simple.

  • A baby jumper needs the baby to use his/her feet and kick off the floor. This way, he/she will jump up and down using the springs of the jumper. Think of the device providing support as your baby do the jumping himself/herself.
  • With baby bouncers, on the other hand, the baby doesn’t necessarily jump and kick his/her feet against the floor. We could compare using a bouncer is similar to a jumper, except this device requires less effort. Some wiggling will allow the baby to bounce in the seat.
  • A swing is an equipment that allows your child to sway back and forth. The child can move a bit backward to create a higher and faster swinging. The child does not actively perform the back and forth movement. However, an adult can intervene to keep the swing moving.

Are Baby Jumpers Safe?

As we have mentioned throughout this article, supervision is non-negotiable with any mobility equipment. And even though the activity seems simple, remember to limit your little one’s usage of the device.

About 15 minutes a day is enough so you can avoid causing injuries and stress on your baby’s joints. We believe that the other term for jumper, which is the exersaucer, is too misleading. If overused, your baby may take longer to develop muscle control. Other than developmental delays, using jumpers for too long can also affect your baby’s posture.

Limited duration will also allow your baby to develop other skills naturally. You can do this by giving him/her time playing on the floor using a pack n play. But whether it’s a walker, jumper, or a pack n play, make sure that the area where you placed the equipment is spacious enough for the activity. Especially with doorway jumpers, the attachment on the frames should be slip-proof and fool-proof.

Different models have different maximum age and weight recommendations. Before purchasing a jumper, make sure that your baby is within the unit’s recommended range. And speaking of limitations, your child should be able to hold his/her head upright without any assistance before using a jumper. Babies are typically able to keep their head upright at around 4 months, so be sure that he/she has ticked this milestone first before using a jumper.

Lastly, always double-check every part of the unit for any possible unsafe damages. This involves checking the straps, springs, to even the toys attached if the model has an activity center.

What is an Activity Center?

You can purchase a separate activity center, but some models of walkers and jumpers already have their own. The selection of toys usually matches the theme and colors of the jumper. Some of the inclusions are interactive, and babies can press, push, pull, or squeeze them. Other than manual intervention, there are also activity centers with battery-operated accessories for the sounds and lights.

All these features and activities keep your little one engaged. At the same time, the toys can also teach him/her with numbers, letters, colors, and other theme-related lessons. This way, your child is having fun but is also learning basic knowledge. Depending on the recommended age range, the inclusions will be developmentally appropriate and stimulating for your little one.

What to Consider When Looking for a Baby Jumper

Safety

There are a lot of factors that can influence your decision when it comes to buying a baby jumper. And the first thing that usually comes to mind is whether the model is safe. As we have mentioned earlier, baby jumpers also pose some risks. And the solution to avoid them is being extra vigilant. Not only during the time when your baby is using the jumper, but also when choosing a jumper itself.

We can safely assume that part of what affects a model’s safety is its overall built. It’s going to be supporting your child, so it’s essential that it is stable. Do a couple of tests if every connection and part feels sturdy. You can also look for any potentially sharp points and edges that can injure your little one. One of the parts that is also possibly damaging are the jumper’s springs, so make sure they aren’t exposed.

Other than the material’s durability, you should also be aware of the substances and chemicals that might be present in the jumper. You should know the no-no trifecta, which is composed of BPA, phthalate, and lead. However, these are not the only substances to avoid. To be safe, you can look for certifications and tests that prove the absence of any harmful chemicals in the jumper.

Are there other parts of the jumper that you should be extra meticulous about? Well, the seat that holds the baby should fit correctly and comfortably on your baby. You want to make sure that it holds up to your baby’s armpits so that he/she remains restricted as he/she bounces. Make sure that its sides are not too low that it puts your baby at risk for falling out.

Besides the seat, you should also check the bungee cords of the jumper. This is exclusive to doorway jumpers since manufacturers have designed them this way. Since you’re attaching the jumper on your doorway, you have to be confident with the quality of its clamps. How secure do they attach?

We notice that most, if not all, doorway jumpers use two bungee cords. This is what you want because it offers equal support on both sides of the baby. At the same time, two bungee cords will also reduce side-to-side or uncontrolled movements during use. Think of it as a more stable, controlled jumping. And if you’re opting for a doorway jumper, make sure that it has the right size for your door frame.

Lastly, since we’re talking about safety, you should never neglect the included toys in the activity center. We know that babies are too curious for their own sake. Therefore, besides watching them like a hawk, avoid any toys that pose a choking hazard.

Your Baby’s Size, Weight, and Age

It may seem like an unnecessary reminder, but we’re still going to mention these factors. When choosing a baby jumper, it should fit accordingly to your baby. And this will only happen if your baby’s age and weight are within the recommended range of the manufacturer.

Different baby jumpers will also offer different developmentally appropriate designs, but they are not limited to activity centers. What we mean by developmentally appropriate is that the jumper will safely hold and support your child. This means it’s not going to be too big or too small that it will cause accidents during use.

Lastly, make sure that the jumper can accommodate your child’s height. You shouldn’t be seeing your child’s feet flat on the ground, nor he/she is tiptoeing like a ballet student. These positions are potentially detrimental to physical development besides the discomfort they cause.

Adjustability and Comfort

An economical tip that you can practice is to find an adjustable jumper. As long as your baby’s age and weight are within the recommended range, you can opt for the model that can accommodate the upcoming years.

Some jumpers have adjustable height so that it can still be usable by your little one if he grows an inch or two. There are also units with seats that can take in thin to chubby babies. This feature is doable by having a sketchy material, particularly in the leg holes. That being said, the baby won’t feel like the fabric is pinching him/her when using the jumper.

And since we’re talking about comfort, opt for jumpers with cushioning. The model should also be easily removable and washable to keep it clean in case of accidents. A clean jumper seat will always be comfortable and enticing.

Activity Center

Doorway jumpers don’t have their own activity centers. But some models opt for having handles where you can hang and attach your baby’s favorite toys. With stationary jumpers, on the other hand, they usually have a tray and an array of toys matching to the unit’s theme. Although, do take note that some stationary jumpers also lack an activity center.

So why is having an activity center relevant? The straight answer to this is because it makes the jumper more engaging. Or to put it better, it makes jumping around more entertaining. The toys that come with jumpers typically require the child to interact with them. But they do this in a way that the child learns basic knowledge. This may involve counting and color identification, to name a few.

Engaging with an activity center also teaches the baby hand-eye coordination, as well as cause and effect. And to keep the child entertained, some units have battery-operated inclusions that light up or play a sound.

Foldability

You may soon want to relocate the jumper or bring it somewhere else during travel. And once your baby outgrows it, it would be a shame if you’ll just leave it obstructing your already limited space. Taking these into consideration, you should consider a jumper that folds easy. This way, you can carry it with you wherever. At the same time, you won’t have to worry about where you can keep it for storage.

Conclusion

Overall, a jumper is an excellent equipment to satisfy your baby’s need to move his/her legs. You just have to use it safely with supervision and moderation as you would with any baby-related product.

Our top pick is the Summer Pop N’ Jump Portable Activity Center. It folds into a travel bag and comes with its own UV canopy and feet pad. However, the other units in this review also have their own strengths fitting for the lifestyle and needs of different families.

You can opt to choose a doorway jumper, or something with an activity center like the Fisher-Price Rainforest Jumperoo. The former works great for those with limited home space, and the latter can keep your little one busy as you do quick chores.
